Although SkillsEdge Limited is a relatively new company it has a long pedigree having been developed from Strategic Sales Training International (SSTi) which was originally formed in 1976.

The founder of SSTi was Tony Davis who had been responsible for developing and implementing sales training programmes for IBM. In his new company Tony had identified the need to assess the levels of sales knowledge possessed by course delegates in order to structure the training to satisfy specific requirements.

This objective led to the development of diagnostic assessment with the first application being the Sales Capability Assessment which was released in 1992.

Due to the interest created by this product the concept was extended to include the Project Management Capability Assessment and the General Management Capability Assessment which were released in 1994.

All of these early knowledge assessments took the form of booklets which were completed and marked by hand. Although this was a time-consuming process the approach proved to be very successful and SSTIi built up a considerable customer base which included users in over 70 industries in manufacturing, finance, government, distribution and process industries.

With the expansion of the Internet and the use of web-based applications it became obvious that there was considerable merit in transferring the product set to a new delivery platform.

In 2003 SSTi combined forces with Able Hosting Limited, a specialist internet company, to form SkillsEdge and to provide a technical basis for the development of the current range of web-based knowledge assessments.

The new versions allowed knowledge assessments to be taken on-line and be marked in real-time. This provided a more efficient and economical product set and is the basis on which all new knowledge assessments are delivered.

In 2004 a new product was developed to address the emerging requirements in the field of Relationship Management. This was based upon the work undertaken by Tony Davis in the preparation of his book, The Relationship Manager - The Next Generation of Project Management, which was published in 2003.

The SkillsEdge Institute now continues the early pioneering work and will expand the range and application of the knowledge assessment approach.
